Hon. Justice Lekan Adekanye Ogunmoye was appointed as the Acting Chief Judge of Ekiti State on November 5, 2024, following the passing of his predecessor, Hon. Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye. His appointment was made by Governor Biodun Oyebanji under the powers conferred by Section 271(4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
Born on November 6, 1963, Justice Ogunmoye was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987 and was appointed as a judge on April 1, 2010. He served as the Acting Chief Judge until his formal confirmation as the sixth substantive Chief Judge of Ekiti State on July 3, 2025, by the Ekiti State House of Assembly, following a recommendation by the judiciary committee.
During his swearing-in ceremony on July 7, 2025, Governor Oyebanji charged Justice Ogunmoye to uphold justice with courage, integrity, and a strong sense of duty, emphasizing the importance of preserving the state's judicial heritage.
Justice Ogunmoye has expressed his commitment to modernizing the Ekiti State Judiciary by embracing digital transformation to enhance efficiency and speed in the administration of justice. His vision includes making judicial services more accessible to the public while ensuring greater transparency and accountability across all levels of the judiciary.
