Hon. Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf was born in June 1962 in Ankpa, Kogi State, Nigeria. He began his education at Sacred Heart Primary School (1965–1971) and proceeded to St. Charles College, Ankpa (1972–1976). He pursued legal studies at the University of Lagos from 1980 to 1983 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984 after completing the Nigerian Law School program.
Justice Baba-Yusuf commenced his legal career as a Magistrate Grade II in the Kogi State Judiciary in 1985. He rose through the ranks, serving as Chief Registrar of the Kogi State High Court in 1993. In 1998, he was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
On August 1, 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as the Acting Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, following the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC). His appointment was confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on October 12, 2021, and he was subsequently
sworn in as the substantive Chief Judge on October 26, 2021, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.
Throughout his career, Justice Baba-Yusuf has been recognized for his integrity, leadership, and commitment to the rule of law. He is known for his analytical mind, effective management skills, and dedication to justice.
As Chief Judge, he continues to lead the FCT High Court with a focus on judicial excellence and the fair administration of justice.
