Hon. Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara was appointed as the Acting Chief Judge of Kwara State on January 5, 2023, following the retirement of Hon. Justice Suleiman Durosinlorun Kawu. His appointment was in accordance with Section 271(4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was subsequently confirmed as the substantive Chief Judge by the Kwara State House of Assembly and sworn in by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on May 2, 2023.
Justice Adebara has emphasized the importance of a harmonious relationship among the three arms of government and has pledged to uphold the rule of law and ensure the speedy dispensation of justice in the state.
Under his leadership, the Kwara State Judiciary has undertaken several reforms aimed at enhancing the administration of justice. In the 2022/2023 legal year, the judiciary registered 26,533 cases, out of which 13,720 were decided. The total revenue generated from fines and court fees amounted to over ₦83 million.
Justice Adebara has also overseen the inauguration of new magistrate courts in various parts of the state to improve access to justice. He has reiterated the judiciary's commitment to fighting crimes and lawlessness, ensuring that the state does not become a haven for criminals.
In recognition of the challenges faced by the judiciary, Justice Adebara has called for increased budgetary provisions to address issues such as inadequate courtrooms and other infrastructural deficits. He has also advocated for the repositioning of the nation's judiciary to serve as a trusted and impartial pillar of democracy.
Justice Adebara continues to lead the Kwara State Judiciary with a focus on integrity, efficiency, and the unwavering pursuit of justice for all.
