Hon. Justice Muhanmad T. Mu’azu Aliyu

Hon. Chief Judge of Kaduna State

Hon. Justice Muhammad Tukur Mu’azu Aliyu was born on December 12, 1960, in Zaria, Kaduna State. He obtained his LL.B degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1983 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984.

Justice Aliyu began his legal career as a Magistrate in the Kaduna State Judiciary, where he served in various capacities, including as Chief Magistrate and Judge of the High Court. His dedication and integrity in the judiciary led to his appointment as Acting Chief Judge of Kaduna State in April 2022.  He was confirmed as the substantive Chief Judge in March 2023.

As Chief Judge, Justice Aliyu has been instrumental in implementing significant reforms in the Kaduna State Judiciary. Notably, he oversaw the development and adoption of five key policy documents aimed at reforming the criminal justice system: the Administration of Criminal Justice Rules, Standard Operating Procedures, Criminal Justice Charter, Sentencing Guidelines, and Bondsman Regulations. These reforms were achieved with the support of the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee and partners like the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC).

Under his leadership, the Kaduna State Judiciary has also embraced technological advancements, including the deployment of speech-to-text systems and the enhancement of records management processes. These initiatives aim to improve efficiency and transparency within the judiciary.

Justice Aliyu's vision is to establish a judiciary that is integrity-driven, disciplined, and accessible, serving as a beacon of fairness and justice that inspires public trust and confidence.

He currently serves as the Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission of Kaduna State, overseeing the administration and discipline within the state's judiciary.

Justice Muhammad Tukur Mu’azu Aliyu is married and blessed with children.
