Hon. Justice Umar Abubakar was born on April 15th, 1959, in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State. He obtained his primary school certificate from Town Primary School Birnin Kebbi, where he studied from 1968 to 1975. He then proceeded to GTC Argungu from 1975 to 1980 and later attended the State College of Arts and Sciences Sokoto from 1984 to 1986. He continued his education at Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto from 1986 to 1990, where he earned an LLB degree in both Common Law and Islamic Law.
He attended the Nigeria Law School, Lagos, from 1990 to 1991, where he obtained a B.L. He was appointed as a magistrate on January 2nd, 1992, and was promoted to all grades of magistrates and chief magistrates before being appointed as the Secretary of JSC on May 19th, 1998. In the year 2003, he was appointed as Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, a position he held until January 15th, 2007, when he was appointed as a High Court Judge, serving in that capacity to date. Honourable Justice Umar Abubakar is happily married and has children.
